Zandvoort Beach for Amsterdam

Gasthuishofje

Don't tell anyone... because this really is a hidden gem! From the lively village centre, you step through an inconspicuous gate into a green oasis of peace and quiet. It is as if the world seems to stand still for a moment.

Visit the courtyard in an appropriate manner, as the houses around the courtyard garden are still occupied.

Where?

When?

Whole year.

More Information

After the boulevard was demolished in the Second World War to make way for the Atlantik Wall, the Gasthuishofje was built in 1946-1947 as the first structure in Zandvoort's reconstruction plan. The 27 houses were intended as accommodation for old residents of Zandvoort who had lost their homes during the occupation. The Gasthuishofje is officially listed as a national monument.
