About twenty smokers will light the fire with their "smoke barrel" on the Raadhuisplein at 09:00. The mackerels will be in the barrel for 3 to 3.5 hours. At 14:00, they have to hand in one mackerel for the championship. At 14:15, the champion will be announced after a viewing and tasting round by an expert jury. After the prize-giving, the fresh mackerels will be sold for charity.
