Due to Corona measures, all events have been cancelled until 1 September.
The EC Sand Sculptures has been inextricably linked with Zandvoort for several years now. It started in 2011 when the National Championships were held in Zandvoort, which turned into a European Championship the next year. A phenomenon that has been annually organized in Zandvoort ever since.
In July ‘carvers’ from different European countries will battle it out for the title. Mountains of sand will be formed into the most beautiful and detailed sculptures during the course of a week. The structure of beach sand is unsuitable for making such sculptures, so special river sand is brought in for the occasion. But the beach is still perfect for making your own sand castles! Each year each participant will represent a theme in a sand sculpture.
The past years have already brought us ‘myths & legends’, ‘music and dance’ and ‘Van Gogh & Contemporaries’. This years theme is: ‘Winners'. The European Championship 2019 was won by Fergus Mulvany from Ireland.
The impressive sand creations can be seen on several of Zandvoort’s squares, both in town and along the boulevard. The Sand Sculpture Festival can be visited for free until the end of October, when the sculptures are removed.
