Zandvoort Beach for Amsterdam

Amsterdam Beach

Visitors staying in Amsterdam can find the perfect escape from that busy city in Amsterdam Beach. Amsterdam Beach encompasses the entire region from Zandvoort to IJmuiden. Zandvoort is unique because it is the only town with a direct rail link to Amsterdam. Only half an hour's travel from the capital and you'll be barefoot in the sand looking out over the beautiful sea. The ultimate holiday feeling! This makes Zandvoort, with its lively boulevard, cool beach clubs and cozy town center, the true back yard of Amsterdam. It is the seaside resort empress Sissi loved coming to 130 years ago.

Relaxing by the sea

Lying on your beach bed with a cocktail in your hand, or getting active on the water on your surf board or stand up paddle board. Wandering around the charming village with its little alleys, authentic shops and old fisherman's cottages. Picking out a terrace for a drink, as there is plenty to see. Looking for peace and quiet? Zandvoort is bordered by two beautiful natural reserves with a wide variety of plants and animals. Go on a hike or rent a bicycle to go exploring, you might come face to face with bison, Konik horses or fallow deer. Searching for more excitement? Zandvoort is also famous for its racetrack, built in 1848. In 2020, after 35 years, the Formula 1 is coming back to town. Go take a look around the racetrack, it's only steps away from the beach. End your day having dinner in a funky beach club or grabbing some fried fish at one of the fish sellers on the boulevard.

This unique combination of beach, racetrack, village and nature is what makes a visit to one of the oldest beach resorts in the Netherlands so attractive. And don't forget about all the events in summer that make the village extra lively.

IJmuiden

To the northeast of Amsterdam is the quiet and wide beach of IJmuiden. The beach at the north peer, the Noordpier, is a favorite hangout for people practicing wind and water sports. Kite surfing, wind or wave surfing, and land yachting with blokarts or kitebuggies, everything is possible. IJmuiden has a great beach, a lively boulevard with fine restaurants and a sea port with impressive locks for large sea vessels and cruise ships.
