Zandvoort Beach for Amsterdam

Nature in Zandvoort

Zandvoort is bordered by two wonderful natural reserves, both open to the public. The National Park Zuid-Kennemerland to the north and the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen to the south bring stunning natural landscapes to Zandvoort. You can walk for hours without meeting another person. Surrounded by nothing but the sounds of nature, you can go exploring for the rare plants and animals that live there.

National Park Zuid-Kennemerland

Entrance to the National Park is free. Chances are that you'll come face to face with Scottish Highland cattle, Konik horses or an impressive bison. It is the only place in the Netherlands where you can see these large bison roam free! Forest rangers offer many different types of guided tours. The reserves are crisscrossed by wide bicycle paths that are excellent for a day of cycling through nature. Several beautiful cycling routes are marked out, many including a stretch along the boulevard.

Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen

The water catchment area Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen is unique, as you are allowed to stray off the paths here. There is no other place with a greater variety of plants. In addition to red squirrels, foxes and rabbits, these reserves are also home to the largest population of fallow deer in the Netherlands. Nature in Zandvoort is nature at its most beautiful! And on top of all this, spread throughout the area you'll find bunkers from World War Two that are freely accessible. This is because Zandvoort has a rich history. Not just because of the development from fishing village to beach resort, but also because of the Second World War. Your guide will tell you all about it on the bunker walks organized by the Zandvoort Tourist Information.

Enjoy the beach

Apart from the parks, the beach is the largest and most famous natural reserve in Zandvoort. The beach here is endless and has something for everyone. Summer or winter, sunshine or rain, high season or low: there is always a good reason to come here. Sunbathing, people watching from the terrace of one of the many beach pavilions or water sports. With 37 pavilions spread out over 9 kilometers, there's always one that suits you. And in winter permanent 5 pavilions remain, so you can warm up after a bracing walk along the beach. So come clear your head and find out what nature in Zandvoort has to offer!
